This meticulously researched, engagingly written and beautifully illustrated book tells the story of Wycombe Abbey from its origins to the present day, and celebrates the ethos and enduring essence of the School. Although providing an overview of the School's earliest history, Margaret Beckett focuses on the changes that have taken place since the School re-opened in 1946, and charts the development of the School as its Headmistresses rose to the sometimes considerable challenges they encountered to make Wycombe Abbey the vibrant community and centre of excellence that it is today.
Margaret Beckett's accounts of how life at Wycombe Abbey has changed over the years are enriched by the reminiscences of many Seniors and ex-members of staff, while newly commissioned photography helps bring to life many of the connections between the past and the present in a series of visual essays on themes that encapsulate the spirit of the School.

| Biography | Dr Margaret Beckett joined the staff of Wycombe Abbey in 1960 and was Head of History for 33 years. She was also Second Mistress (after 1973 known as Deputy Head) for 25 years under three Headmistresses. During temporary absences of Housemistresses, she was resident in almost every House for short spells, and is still in touch with many former pupils. In 1994 she retired to St Andrews and embarked on a PhD in Reformation Studies. She now writes and lectures on lesser-known aspects of 16th-century England and Scotland. |
